We waited for about 10 minutes before the first server came to take our drink orders. From there, though, is when the visit started to go downhill. There was about a 30-minute wait for a table. places that probably should have given me some type of dysentery. I say that as someone who has been on five of the seven continents and eaten at. My family and I visited the Black Bear Diner in Simi Valley today (), and I must admit, it was, possibly, the absolute worst dining experience I’ve had. The staff here was just great.Ī nice diner experience in Simi and one that provides both good food as well as an enjoyable Wild Western ambience. Breakfast will likely be the next try here.Ī note on the service though – prompt, frequent, and polite. We enjoyed our meals more than we thought we would have here. The side of corn bread was like a sweet cake accompaniment. My Wild Alaska Pesto Salmon offered more on the plate in terms of sides, for which I chose a dinner salad with Thousand Island dressing, baked potato with butter and sour cream, and veggies. The blackened salmon provided a lower calorie option and was enjoyed. Each of us had a different type of salmon offering. A temporary excursion I appreciated.īeing pescatarians, we thought we might be challenged by the menu, but did find a few options. The atmosphere inside is rustic west and you’re transported into a sense of not being in Simi Valley or Southern California anymore. Upon entering, I was transported to the types of diner experiences we’ve had in the open west – I’m thinking Montana and Wyoming. So a few nights ago, looking for a dinner spot, we took a chance on Black Bear Diner. As quickly as restaurants in general fold in the city, and even faster at this corner, didn’t know if we would make it before another food stop bit the dust in Simi. that brings what is perhaps now a bit of a nostalgic approach to food to the modern day (Once upon a time, when Denny's, Norms, and Bob's Big Boy were the diners of the day)īlack Bear Diner opened a few months ago in Simi Valley.
